About me
Hello my name is Paul Rawsthorne, I've been working for myself as Thorne Woodworking for 15 years.
I have City & Guilds qualifications In Cabinetmaking and Wood Machining, which I earned while attending Southfields College of FE (as it was known then) for a 2 year full time course, after leaving school. Not including those two 2 years, I now have 30 years experience 'in the trade', the first 18 years after finishing my 2 years at college, I was an 'employee'. I Worked for 3 companies during that time, the last, being Nimbus Narrowboats, with which I spent over 10 years working for. Nimbus Narrowboats made high spec bespoke narrowboats, which were of a very high quality in build and design (see the narrowboat gallery). The interior cabinetry being made 'in house' out of various hardwoods. My job being to, design and build all of the all of the cabinetry and various timber fixtures and, sometimes install said cabinetry. During those years I was able to practice and hone my cabinetmaking every working day.
So what you see here on my website in the galleries, is those years of experience hopefully shining through.
Everything I make is very much handmade, this notion is probably better expressed thus. Every single piece of timber, in every single photo, that you see here on my website has, passed through my hands numerous times on its way to becoming the finished article. Whether that be an oak door, kitchen unit, or a shelf inside the kitchen unit, an oak frame for a fitted wardrobe, or the carcasing for drawers. That's hand crafted.
So thanks for visiting thornewoodworking.co.uk, I hope it was enjoyable and hopefully you found a little inspiration...........
Paul.
